What’s Galentine’s Day I hear you ask? ‘It’s only the best day of the year!’
I’ve loved the idea of Galentine’s Day since watching Parks and Rec. I adore Amy Poehler (seriously, go read her book Yes, Please. You can thank me later) and the constantly perky Leslie Knoppe. I’m blessed to have some fabulously supportive girls in my life and we’ve stuck together through break ups, make ups, work stress, ill health and family dysfunction. We’re there for each other and like Valentine’s Day, it’s nice to celebrate that relationship.
Last year I drew some Galentine’s Day cards for my girls with a geeky theme and I loved the phrase ‘Good Friends Make Magic‘. I’ve been reading up about witches and feminism for a novel I’m working on so wanted to bring that idea of a coven to my cards this year. I was given some paintbrush pens for Christmas and it seemed like a good time to learn how to use them. Add to that, Galentine’s Day lands on a Wednesday during Women in Horror Month this year so it’s officially Witch Wednesday!
Here at Beagle HQ, we’ve been Marie Kondo-ing the house. I’ve cleared out our bookshelf and have decided to get rid of some much-loved (and some unread!) books. The bulk are going to the charity shop but I thought it might be a nice idea to gift some of my favourite books to my favourite gals. Many of my friends will say they don’t like ‘genre’ fiction but I’ll mention an author or book (or TV show!) and they’ll admit they love it so I’m hoping to introduce them to some new fabulous females. Female authors for female friends! I really hope they like their cards and books.
